Electrical Fault Finding for Non-Specialists

Electrical and Power Engineering|2 days|Classroom or live online

Electrical Fault Finding for Non-Specialists is built for delegates who need to be useful in this area quickly. It starts at first principles and works through variable speed drives and lockout and tagout without assuming prior specialist training. The programme exists because maintenance teams are increasingly expected to diagnose equipment they did not commission, and because capability in this area is usually built on the job with no structure behind it. Delegates leave able to work confidently with insulation testing, electrical safety procedure and substation operation in their own organisation.

What delegates leave able to do

  • Take ownership of insulation testing rather than escalating it, measured against the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Bring electrical safety procedure into line with current good practice
  • Put substation operation on a footing they can defend to a reviewer
  • Explain switchgear maintenance to someone who does not do the work
