Fundamentals of Electrical Fault Finding

2 days|Delivered on request

Fundamentals of Electrical Fault Finding is built for delegates who need to be useful in this area quickly. It starts at first principles and works through transformer maintenance and protection relays without assuming prior specialist training. The programme exists because ageing plant is being asked to carry loads it was never specified for, and because capability in this area is usually built on the job with no structure behind it. Delegates leave able to work confidently with switchgear maintenance, circuit breaker operation and motor control centres in their own organisation.

What delegates leave able to do

  • Take ownership of switchgear maintenance rather than escalating it, measured against the SANS wiring code
  • Put circuit breaker operation on a footing they can defend to a reviewer
  • Bring motor control centres into line with current good practice
  • Improve load flow analysis within their own organisation

What the course covers

  • Transformer maintenance
  • Protection relays
  • Switchgear maintenance
  • Circuit breaker operation
  • Motor control centres
  • Load flow analysis
  • Power factor correction

Who should attend

  • maintenance planners
  • safety officers in electrical environments
  • electricians
  • substation operators
