Fundamentals of Power Factor Correction

Electrical and Power Engineering|2 days|Classroom or live online

Fundamentals of Power Factor Correction is built for delegates who need to be useful in this area quickly. It starts at first principles and works through electrical safety procedure and electrical fault analysis without assuming prior specialist training. The programme exists because ageing plant is being asked to carry loads it was never specified for, and because capability in this area is usually built on the job with no structure behind it. Delegates leave able to work confidently with arc flash assessment, variable speed drives and load flow analysis in their own organisation.

What delegates leave able to do

  • Explain arc flash assessment to someone who does not do the work, measured against the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Put variable speed drives on a footing they can defend to a reviewer
  • Review load flow analysis and say plainly whether it is working
  • Bring standby generation into line with current good practice
