Fundamentals of Protection Systems

Electrical and Power Engineering|2 days|Classroom or live online

Fundamentals of Protection Systems is built for delegates who need to be useful in this area quickly. It starts at first principles and works through circuit breaker operation and insulation testing without assuming prior specialist training. The programme exists because ageing plant is being asked to carry loads it was never specified for, and because capability in this area is usually built on the job with no structure behind it. Delegates leave able to work confidently with electrical fault analysis, earthing and bonding and power factor correction in their own organisation.

What delegates leave able to do

  • Put electrical fault analysis on a footing they can defend to a reviewer, measured against IEC standards
  • Bring earthing and bonding into line with current good practice
  • Explain power factor correction to someone who does not do the work
  • Spot where load flow analysis is failing before it becomes a finding
