Managing Substation Operation

Electrical and Power Engineering|3 days|Classroom or live online

This programme is for the person accountable for the work rather than the person doing it. It covers arc flash assessment and substation operation from the position of someone who must review, approve and answer for the output. Managers carry this because ageing plant is being asked to carry loads it was never specified for, and the accountability does not delegate cleanly. Delegates leave able to work confidently with insulation testing, switchgear maintenance and condition monitoring in their own organisation.

What delegates leave able to do

  • Put insulation testing on a footing they can defend to a reviewer, measured against the SANS wiring code
  • Make a decision about switchgear maintenance without waiting for a specialist
  • Explain condition monitoring to someone who does not do the work
  • Spot where electrical fault analysis is failing before it becomes a finding
