This is a hands-on programme. Delegates spend most of the time working through switchgear maintenance and transformer maintenance on live scenarios rather than listening to theory about them. The practical emphasis is deliberate: ageing plant is being asked to carry loads it was never specified for, and reading about the method has repeatedly proved insufficient. Delegates leave able to work confidently with electrical safety procedure, load flow analysis and substation operation in their own organisation.

- Explain electrical safety procedure to someone who does not do the work, measured against recognised arc flash assessment practice
- Take ownership of load flow analysis rather than escalating it
- Review substation operation and say plainly whether it is working
