Service Delivery Planning for Managers

Public Sector and Municipal Management|3 days|Classroom or live online

This programme is for the person accountable for the work rather than the person doing it. It covers consequence management and intergovernmental relations from the position of someone who must review, approve and answer for the output. Managers carry this because service delivery failures usually trace back to planning rather than to budget, and the accountability does not delegate cleanly. Delegates leave able to work confidently with ethics in the public service, public participation and council procedure in their own organisation.

What delegates leave able to do

  • Explain ethics in the public service to someone who does not do the work, measured against the Batho Pele principles
  • Put public participation on a footing they can defend to a reviewer
  • Spot where council procedure is failing before it becomes a finding
  • Review annual reporting and say plainly whether it is working
