Substation Operation for Non-Specialists
Electrical and Power Engineering|2 days|Classroom or live online
Substation Operation for Non-Specialists is built for delegates who need to be useful in this area quickly. It starts at first principles and works through variable speed drives and earthing and bonding without assuming prior specialist training. The programme exists because maintenance teams are increasingly expected to diagnose equipment they did not commission, and because capability in this area is usually built on the job with no structure behind it. Delegates leave able to work confidently with arc flash assessment, standby generation and cable fault location in their own organisation.
What delegates leave able to do
- Put arc flash assessment on a footing they can defend to a reviewer, measured against IEC standards
- Spot where standby generation is failing before it becomes a finding
- Bring cable fault location into line with current good practice
- Take ownership of switchgear maintenance rather than escalating it
