It goes past the basics into budgeting and variance analysis, deferred tax and the judgement calls that sit outside the Companies Act. At this level the constraint is rarely knowledge. It is judgement under pressure, which matters because reporting standards keep moving and finance teams carry the consequence of getting them wrong.
