Municipal Finance: Tools and Techniques

3 days|Delivered on request

This is a hands-on programme. Delegates spend most of the time working through grant management and intergovernmental relations on live scenarios rather than listening to theory about them. The practical emphasis is deliberate: officials are held personally accountable under legislation many have never been trained on, and reading about the method has repeatedly proved insufficient. Delegates leave able to work confidently with audit action planning, irregular expenditure and integrated development planning in their own organisation.

What delegates leave able to do

  • Explain audit action planning to someone who does not do the work, measured against the Municipal Systems Act
  • Review irregular expenditure and say plainly whether it is working
  • Put integrated development planning on a footing they can defend to a reviewer
  • Make a decision about public finance management without waiting for a specialist
