Practical Municipal Finance

3 days|Delivered on request

This is a hands-on programme. Delegates spend most of the time working through ethics in the public service and asset management on live scenarios rather than listening to theory about them. The practical emphasis is deliberate: officials are held personally accountable under legislation many have never been trained on, and reading about the method has repeatedly proved insufficient. Delegates leave able to work confidently with grant management, performance management in government and consequence management in their own organisation.

What delegates leave able to do

  • Bring grant management into line with current good practice, measured against the MFMA
  • Review performance management in government and say plainly whether it is working
  • Make a decision about consequence management without waiting for a specialist
  • Put municipal budgeting on a footing they can defend to a reviewer
